No doubt Steven Chu is a smart guy. That's why I don't understand this at all.
Most "green" energies are phantom. Wind and solar don't (and can't) work. Unless you want to cover an area the size of Arizona with windmills and solar panels. The President has made clear that he intends to bankrupt coal-using electric utilities. Cap-and-trade will certainly bankrupt consumers. We saw the result of biofuels last summer with the incredible increase in the cost of food. (Using the food supply to fill our fuel tanks might be the worst idea ever.) Chu has effectively killed expansion of nuclear by closing Yucca Mountain.
Maybe I do understand. Chu is showing himself less a scientist than politician, doing his masters' bidding.

I thought I'd be generous.
