California Lays Off Teachers

Too bad. You get to share the love with the rest of us. Are teachers important? Yeah. More important than, say, an auto worker? No. Maybe looking at a more responsible way to run schools on a budget would help keep some teachers. Maybe bringing teacher pay and benefits back to Earth would help.

Falling enrollment should result in fewer teachers, not more. Less money available should result in fewer teachers, not more. Fifty years ago, 30 students to a class was not unusual. We learned better than todays' children do. And did it in old buildings.

California education will survive. Really.
