Maybe things have changed immensely since my day. Submarines are very close quarters; zero privacy. To make them co-ed is an awful idea. All-woman submarines? Great. Have fun. Co-ed? Not so much.
True, but a retired navy friend of mine reminded me that the navy will have to deal with the largest and most powerful lobby in the country....Navy Wives. This may never happen.
Ugh! I have such mixed feelings about women in the service (combat, subs, etc., not generally speaking) that I've not even sorted them out myself yet. I wish that we could just leave this up to the military to sort out; they know what's best for them (and I want what is best for them, not for some liberal loons in DC).
Politicians have always decided what is "best" for the military. I'm not wild about the ramifications of it sometimes, but it beats a military dictatorship.
I didn't mean to imply that you would support a military dictatorship, only that a military dictatorship would be the only time politicians would not decide what is "best".
Of course, taken to it's limit, it can be argued that determining what is best for another person or group is the very definition of "politician".

The Navy has become THE most PC military branch. This isn't the first kowtow to stupidity the Navy's pulled.
Let's hope that it's reversed and the Navy concentrates on readiness for a change.

Goodness, that's a heck of a leap. I didn't say or even imply that a military dictatorship (!) is desirable.

And aren't you up awfully early?
;-)

Wait until you are old like me. Sleep? No clue what that is.
